Woodford Primary School

British Values

At Woodford Primary school we are fully committed to promoting British Values.  We work to ensure that our children are fully prepared for life in modern Britain and we actively promote the fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.  We recognise that the relationships we build with our children, with each other and with the wider community support the children in becoming successful citizens in their communities and our STRIVE ethos underpins this work.  We use further opportunities in our PSHE curriculum, our Religion and Worldview curriculum and through collective worship, although the exploration of these values may also come through learning in other subject areas and our interaction with current affairs through weekly Picture News discussion.

In our school, we recognise the importance of providing children with opportunities to be active players in their communities, to support causes they are passionate about and to develop leadership skills.  Throughout the year, we commit time to fundraising for external charities as well as for the school and we are proud that our children often support worthy causes through their own initiatives.

We have a School Parliament who are elected democratically, and we encourage all of our children to play a role in the everyday running of the school. Leadership opportunities for our KS2 children within our school include being part of our Eco Council, taking on a role as a School Librarian and working with our younger children as a Sports Captain although there are many other leadership groups.  Examples of our contributions to causes outside of school include fundraising for Children in Need, supporting Plymouth Argyle's Project 35 initiative, the Ukraine Appeal and the Poppy Appeal.
