Assessment
At Woodford, we believe that every child can achieve and that assessment is an integral part of a high-quality curriculum.
The purpose of assessment is to measure the progress of children from novice to expert. At Westcountry Schools Trust, our curriculum exists as a progression model. The role of assessment is to assess how well children have learned the curriculum. Assessment strategies provide frequent, quick opportunities for us to reflect on children's learning, identifying thinking, strengths and next steps. Assessment determines if we need to expand on, deviate from or reinforce our curriculum expectations, adapting where necessary to enable all children to make progress.
Assessment has three components:
- Assessment for learning: Classroom-based practice that enables interaction between teacher and learners, providing information for adaptation in the moment, maximising effort and participation for all.
- Assessment as learning: Involving learners in monitoring their own progress in the curriculum.
- Assessment of learning: Planned diagnostic and cumulative assessment in the domain, assessing learning over time.
