The School Council is designed to give children some ownership of the issues that are important to them in their school.
NEWS AND UPDATES

September 2025
Mrs Beresford is delighted to be leading and supporting the Woodford school council for 2025/6. In September each class voted for who they would like to represent their class on the school council. Children prepared speeches and presented them to their peers and then each class democratically decided who they would like to elect.

We are so excited to be one of the 42 schools that are going to be taking part in the St Lukes Guiding lights art trail, Summer 2026. Mrs Beresford will lead the project, supported by the school council throughout the coming year. Sarah Wilson, from St Luke’s Hospice came into school in October to lead a special assembly to launch the very exciting ‘Guiding Lights’ project. Sarah told the children all about St Luke’s, the amazing work they do at the hospice and caring for people in their own homes. The children were very interested to see photos of the hospice and Sarah’s examples of the different care that is given to patients. They loved seeing the pets visiting and the use of VR headsets which can take patients to another country! Sarah also talked about all the wonderful fundraising that is done, such as the Midnight walk and the new project that we are going to be involved in. Guiding Lights will be an art trail with large lighthouses which will be painted by different artists and displayed next summer. We are involved in the school project, receiving our own smaller, lighthouse sculpture which we will design and paint to represent Woodford. Our lighthouse and other schools will be displayed in The Box museum, Summer 2026. We are very excited to be part of such an amazing project. Watch this space for our fundraising and decoration ideas for our Little Lights sculpture.

Children in Need fundraising. During our first school council meeting the children had the important decision of which sort of Mufti the children could wear to raise funds for the Children in Need charity. They had lots of good ideas from pyjamas to superhero costumes but they finally voted and agreed on rainbow colour theme for the school, with each year group wearing colours to form the rainbow. A symbol of hope and spreading happiness and light in thinking about others. The day was a great success with £190 raised for the charity and lots of smiles throughout the school!
