Year 2 - Rowan

Healthy Week

Next week is our annual Healthy week were the children will get the chance to try out different healthy activities and learn all about being healthy. As with the last couple of years, there will be a focus on mental health as well. Below is a timetable of the events that the children will be undertaking. Keep checking back for photos as the week progresses.

Welcome to Rowan's Class Page.

September 2017

The children have settled well into Year 2 and are enjoying their new learning.

In English, we are preparing to write a story with the skills we have been leaning. These include conjunctions, commas in a list and expanded noun phrases. Ask them to show you a skill they have learnt as I have been so impressed with their writing so far!

In Maths, we have been working on our number bonds to 10, 20 and 100 and are just beginning to look at shape.  If you have time at home, please practice the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times table with your child.

In our Topic lessons we have been looking at different weather, both in the UK and the rest of the world. We have also been looking at the 7 continents. Challenge your child to name them all! In Science, we have been looking at everyday materials.

Below are some quick reminders -

Homework will be set on a Friday (Handwriting). Please get this back to us by Wednesday to ensure your child's book is marked. Occasionally, their will also be abacus homework set. To access this, the children need to use the login in their homework book.

Reading Books can be changed by your child (with or without your help) in the morning during the register or after school (with the help of a parent/guardian).

Library books will be changed on a Wednesday.

Reading diaries will be checked every Wednesday by Mrs White. If your child has read 3 times a week we will tick the inside of the diary to show this.

PE will be on either a Wednesday or Thursday. Please make sure that if your child has their ears pierced they are able to take their earings our independently before PE.

If you have any questions/queries please don't hesitate to come and speak to me. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Kind Regards, Miss Richards

Autumn Learning (English, SPaG, Maths and Topic)

Felt Workshop - Yesterday we took part in a felt workshop to make fire scenes in blacks, oranges, pink and yellows. We had lots of fun and are really proud of the felt designs we created.

Christmas Party - Tuesday 12th December

On Tuesday 12th December we will be having our class party. We will not need any food sent in from home as the kitchen are preparing us party food as an alternative to your child's usual lunch. This will be eaten at the end of our party. On this day, please send your child in party clothes.

Many Thanks,

The Year 2 Team

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break and feel well rested for the year ahead.

There are a few changes to our timetable this term. PE will now be on a Monday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor - weather permitting). Also, we will now have show and tell on Thursday afternoons.

This term our Topic is 'Pilgrim Fathers' and in Maths and English we are re-visiting and building on our Autumn learning.

I wish you all a happy and healthy 2018.
