Food in School

Morning Break

We encourage children to be ‘healthy eaters’ and seek parents’ support with this.

Key Stage 1 children are all offered a piece of fresh fruit or vegetable every day as part of the government's Free Fruit and Vegetable scheme. Please inform us of any allergies to fruit or vegetables that your child may have.  Children may bring their own fruit snacks to eat during morning break.  Crisps, biscuits, chocolate bars are not suitable for snack and sweets or chewing gum must not be brought to school.  As a designated Healthy School, we encourage the children to bring water in a named bottle to drink during the school day so that they remain hydrated.

The children have a choice of a school meal or may bring in their own packed lunch. In Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 all of the children are entitled to Universal Free School Meals. The meals are cooked in the school kitchen and served in the main hall. The weekly menu is on the notice board, our website and often published in the local newspaper. Parents in receipt of Income Support can apply for free school meals. Forms are available from the office.

IMPORTANT: A proportion of our annual school funding is based on the number of pupils entitled to free school meals. It is therefore in the school’s interest that those who are eligible apply for these meals even if children are in Foundation, Key Stage 1 or if these meals might not be taken up if children choose packed lunches.
