Woodford Primary School

Letter to parents

Dear Parents/Carers,

A warm welcome back to today. It was wonderful to see the children excited to return to school and hear all about their holidays.

We were all saddened and shocked by the tragic death of Mrs Carol Woodward over the holidays. As promised, we have a team to support pupils on their return to school today. The many messages of remembrance, left over the holidays were passed to Carol’s family. The family also came to see the flowers that were left in the church garden. If anyone did not get the opportunity to leave a remembrance message and feel they would like to, there will be another book in the church and any further flowers can be placed in the church garden. Paul Rees, minister of the church has also offered his support.

The children have had a very positive start to school and have enjoyed exploring their new classes and the building. The building work is continuing and whilst it is not yet finished, many areas have been completed and the refurbishment has made a huge improvement to the school. Entrances to classes remain the same for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. New Foundation Stage pupils will have entrances signposted on week commencing 14th September. The kitchen is not yet operational for cooked lunches, so for the next few weeks packed lunches will be provided for Key Stage 1 and are available for purchase, as usual in Key Stage 2. The menu options are on the website.

The Governors needed to change the structure of the school leadership and management for September, 2015, and Jane Stevenson is in the position of Head of School for an interim period. Mrs Philippa Harvey and Mr Mike Owen will remain as Assistant Headteachers. Mr Ian Cload, Headteacher of Boringdon Primary School will be providing strategic advice and support to the school. Mrs Susan Smale, who has Foundation Stage experience, will cover the Oaks class.

Earlier this week we reported details about the expected Ofsted publication date. It is usual for the Summer holidays to delay publication and it seems unlikely that it will be published next week as previously stated on the website. Therefore we need to postpone the parents’ meeting on Monday 21st September until further notice. When we receive the final report, we will ensure that you receive a copy within 5 days and we will also invite you to a parents’ meeting. Please be reassured that we are already addressing the issues identified during Ofsted’s visit and we are confident that we are making good progress.

Thank you for your positive comments and wishes this morning.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Jane Stevenson                                         Mrs Debbie Johns

Acting Head of School                                    Chair of Governor
