This term we have been learning all about balances and how we can use movement to transition into these. We are now even trying to challenge ourselves by balancing in groups!
WORLD BOOK DAY
Today in Maple Class we celebrated World Book Day. We really enjoyed dressing up as some of our favourite story book characters! The room was filled with wizards, unicorns and even a BFG!
To start off our day we were given the challenge of completing a retelling of the Cinderella story. We started by think about what good Year 2 story tellers need...here are some of the ideas we came up with.
And there were just a few of the ideas!
We were then given a Cinderella Plot Skeleton which gave us some simple sentences to work with. Here is what the skeleton looked like before our editing process:

In small groups, we were able to use our editing, improving and writing skills to rewrite our own special sections. By the end of the morning we put our sections together to create a final class write! Here is the final product from a morning of very productive writing!
Once upon a time…there was a poor little girl called Cinderella. Cinderella lived with her two evil, wicked and awfully disgusting Step Sisters and Step Mother. She was used as a servant and lived an awfully unhappy life. She swept the floors angrily, dusted the windows sadly and was forced to mop the floors every single day! Cinderella was quite easily the unhappiest in all the land!
On the other side of the kingdom there was a handsome, smart and happy Prince. One day, this Prince sent out invitations to a ball. Cinderella was very excited to hear about this! And badly wanted to go…..but her ugly, twisted Step Sisters would not let her. Cinderella felt distraught! She could not believe that her Step Sisters would be so wicked!
All of a sudden...Cinderella’s wondrous Fairy Godmother flew gracefully in through her bedroom window. This incredible Fairy granted Cinderella a magical wish! Cinderella cried with happiness and ran down the stairs as quickly as possible to find the most beautiful gown of all!
The spectacular Fairy Godmother gave a strict warning about the spell wearing off at midnight. Cinderella knew that she needed to be back by this time, and gracefully set off for the Prince’s ball.
Cinderella danced elegantly at the extravagant ball with the handsome, charming Prince. She thought that he was the most handsome Prince of all. As time passed on, Cinderella found herself losing track of time.
She ran away as fast as the wind when she heard the clock strike twelve. She dropped her precious, glass slipper and the Prince vowed to find her. The Prince searched worryingly across the Kingdom., Until he came across a beautiful, small cottage that Cinderella lived in.
The ugly, terrible and terrifying sisters of Cinderella tried on the shoe, but it did not fit any of them. Eventually, the Prince tried it on Cinderella…
It fit perfectly!!!!
Cinderella was overjoyed with the Prince, and got married. Both the Prince and Cinderella lived happily ever after.
We really hope you enjoyed the entry! We worked very hard on it!

Fireworks look like a million pieces of petals
Fireworks shine bright like a rainbow falling down
In the night fireworks look like the sun
In the night fireworks are amazing
Fireworks are like shimmering stars flashing
Fireworks fly beyond the horizon
