Devon's Children's University
As a school, we encourage our children to become part of the Devon Children's University scheme. This is a scheme where children can achieve 'hours' by taking part in learning activities outside of school hours. It is available for any child 5 or over and is free to join. We currently have 130 children taking part in the scheme.
"The Children's University Trust is a charitable trust that provides 7 to 14 year olds (and 5 to 6 year olds with their families) with exciting and innovative learning activities and experiences outside normal school hours. We celebrate achievement and reward participation through our certificates. Passport To Learning has been created, in which 7 to 14 year old children - and 5 and 6 year olds with grown-ups - collect 'stamps' and hours of accredited learning. This contributes to the award of a certificate, encouraging them to access Children's University provision and a wide range of other worthwhile out-of-school-hours learning opportunities." Children can obtain a passport from the school office and start collecting hours straight away, for activities they do outside of school. There are a wide number of 'Learning Destinations' where children can collect hours if they attend sessions- for example, Brownies, Cubs, dance classes, football training.
Please see the link below for the full list of destinations.
As children collect hours, they become eligible for certificates and once they reach 100 hours they are invited to a Graduation ceremony to celebrate their achievements.
Gold Graduation October 2018
We were very proud to have 64 children graduate at Plymouth University's Gold Graduation ceremony. This celebrated the children's achievement of collecting 100 hours in the passports. It was a fantastic evening, where the children all met Children's University Chancellors to receive their 100 hour badges.
